But why, I wonder, is it through fire and hardship that G-d so often reveals Himself to us? Perhaps it is because in times of comfort and success, we forget. We take life for granted. It is in moments of pain and uncertainty that we turn back to prayer, to the commandments, to the Source that sustains us.
And still, the branches of the Bush were not destroyed. To me, that is the deepest symbol: that trials are not meant to annihilate us, but to transform us. Through them, we discover new possibilities, a cleansing, and a higher level of connection with G-d. The fire illuminates, but it does not consume.
