    Description

They say that although the Jewish people left Egypt long ago, they still carry Egypt with them. Life in the Galut continues to shape us, and each year, we relive the Exodus, leaving Egypt once again. For forty years, our ancestors wandered the desert, shedding the weight of slavery, yet the sand of that journey still lingers within us. It lives as fear and doubt in our own strength.

This painting, much like the story of the Exodus, is built upon layers. The theme itself dictates the technique. First, there is the golden, vibrant life of Egypt, represented by a rich, colorful background. Then comes the sand with its thick textures that evoke the harsh desert landscape.

I explored this same technique in my Coffee in the Desert project for Nespresso in Be’er Sheva. Finally, delicate, translucent layers of paint create a sense of depth and immensity. This is not just any sea; it is the water that washes away the desert’s sand, cleansing us from bondage and leading us toward freedom.
